Barbie played a significant role in my childhood. I enjoyed spending hours carefully selecting the perfect outfits and creating the ultimate Barbie dream house for my dolls. When I watched the opening clip of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie trailer, I was instantly inspired to organize a wedding photoshoot that captured not only the essence of Barbie but the feeling of nostalgia many of us have when we think of Barbie.

My goal for this editorial was to seamlessly blend modern and vintage elements, paying tribute to Barbie’s enduring presence in our culture and this inspired all of my choices from the attire to the cake. The Countryside Cakery crafted a stunning Lambeth-style cake specifically for our shoot.

When selecting the gown for the shoot my vision was for something simple yet fashionable, ensuring it complemented rather than overshadowed the meticulously chosen details that brought the Barbie vision to life. These details included bridal sleeves, sunglasses, and a pink purse.

Lastly, to create a surreal and playful atmosphere, I envisioned a set adorned with an abundance of pink and vibrant, colourful flowers that honoured the variety of colour present in Barbieland and there was no one better for the job than Thuja Floral Design, who flawlessly executed my vision. I also wanted some element of realism to the shoot to pay homage to Barbie’s foray in to the real world in the movie and chose the Prince Arthur Hotel to tie in to the vintage elements of the shoot.
